The FT-6 is a supersonic trainer on the basis of the F-6 fighter (Chinese version of the MiG-19). In to the 1960�s, the PLA Air Force and Navy was built with F-6 and F-7(MiG-21) fighters. In those days the main aircraft to train pilots had been the subsonic FT-5 that was not suitable for training pilots of supersonic aircraft. As a result of this, the PLA Air Force asked for a trainer for this specific purpose including to execute other double seat traveling missions.
