The S.M.79 had been the absolute most successful Italian multi-role medium bomber of World War II. Developed from a civil airliner, the original Sparvieros joined service with the Regia Aeronautica in belated 1936, simply eventually to travel combat over Spain aided by the Aviacion Legionaria, the Italian contingent combat to get the Nationalists.
