Description

The JU-87 plunge bomber is undoubtedly perhaps one of the most famous airplanes of World War II. This characteristic “inverted gull wing” aircraft became famous on very early stage for the war and it will be viewed, aided by the Wehrmacht Panzer Division, the expression the “Blitzkrieg”. The Italian Regia Aeronautica requested towards German ally, prior to the start of war, a specific way to obtain one hundred “Stuka” to equip its ground assault and dive bombing Squadrons. 1st Ju-87B devices found its way to the summer of 1940 and went to equip the 96º Gruppo Bombardamento a Tuffo. The Ju-87, either into the B2 variation or inside the extender range R2 variation, ready other “Gruppi di Volo” for a complete of 150 planes. The Italian “Stuka”, nicknamed “Picchiatello”, was used by Regia Aeronautica over Malta, in North Africa, inside Balkans as well as in the Mediterranean Theatre.
