First showing up in August 1944 as a result of a special Air Ministry requirement, the FW190D9 was indeed an endeavor to make a high-altitude fighter based heavily on a preexisting fighter, the FW190A8. The red undersurfaces with white striped were built to alert the flak gunners across the areas to an amiable aircraft.
