The Yamaha RZ250 made its debut at the 1979 Tokyo Motor Show. It was driven by a 247cc 35hp 2-stroke water-cooled engine connected to the framework via two orthogonal mounts, which prevented engine vibrations from being sent on frame. This allowed both a far more comfortable ride and a more lightweight double cradle framework design. It also featured monocrossrear suspension and spiral-like spoke design tires. Along with its exciting road-legal racer styling and innovative mechanical features, the bicycle left a lasting impression and became one of many best-selling 250cc course bikes on the Japanese market.
