Foot of the Wing Revolution
The group Lotus Type 78 showcased its performance into the 1977 race season. Its innovative design showcased a slim monocoque with side pontoons, which had undersurfaces shaped like inverted aircraft wings to generate downforce, and immediately rendered all the competition car designs obsolete. The 2 cars had been driven by Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson that year, with all the previous taking victories at U.S. West, Spanish, French, and Italiah GPs even though the latter won on Belgian GP. The Type 78 also proceeded to evolve in to the even more famous championship-winning Type 79.
