German Destroyer Z Course (Z37-39) "Project Barbara"
Heading Into Fight With More AA Guns
Germany's Z Class destroyers were built just prior to the start of WWII and saw combat against Uk destroyers at Narvik in northern Norway so that as escorts for the battlecruiser Scharnhorst's final sortie. The Type 1936A ships had their 12.7cm firearms replaced with 15cm guns, and Z37-39 ships in particular were fitted with a double turret on bow. In 1944, an idea to boost anti-aircraft armament regarding Z Class destroyers, code-named "Barbara," had been put into action. These destroyers fought against the mighty Royal Navy until the end for the war.
