The USS Hammann (DD-412) had been a Sims class destroyer which was commissioned in 1939. In 1942, she rescued men from the stricken aircraft carrier Lexington. But she might be most commonly known on her behalf final moments, within the Battle of Midway. Having rescued the crew of the badly-damaged USS Yorktown aircraft provider, it remained alongside to help with repairs once the vessels had been attacked by a Japanese I-168 submarine, the Hammann eventually using a torpedo and sinking.

The Tamiya model kit faithfully catches all the details of the historic ship. Tamiya's developers have taken great care in researching the archives to create the avid modeler many accurate scale model.
