German Tank Destroyer Marder III M
Evolutionary Tank Killer
During WWII, the German Army produced and operated the Marder III series, which were developed to combat Soviet T-34 tanks. The Marder III ended up being equipped with obsolete Czech built 38(t) tank chassis and arrived initially armed with captured Soviet 7.62cm Pak36 anti-tank cannons. This cannon had been later replaced utilizing the German 7.5cm Pak40 weapon the Ausf.H and final variant, the Marder III M. The Marder III M had been put in production in May 1943 and unlike earlier in the day variants, the M's cabin had been relocated to the backside as well as the engine brought forward toward mid section. A complete of 942 M's were produced before introduction of thoroughbred tank destroyer Hetzer which assumed much of the Marder's role.
