The M5A1 light tank that was developed from M3 Stuart light tank ended up being put into production from January 1943. It was running on twin four-stroke V8 300hp Cadillac gas machines which enabled a high rate of 58km/h. It arrived armed with a 37mm main gun and two 7.92mm machine guns and featured additional armor plating on the turret's right part to guard the anti-aircraft machine weapon. About 6,800 devices had been produced and were mainly used in reconnaissance functions during the Italian and North western European Fronts.
