During WWII, Finnish forces had been very in short supply of sufficient armored cars including tanks. A lot of the tanks within their control had been obsolete models that have been no match the newer Russian tanks like the T-34 and KV-1. However, circumstances designed the Finnish Army had to maximize what was available, as well as combined the hull from a captured Russian BT-7 light tank with a fresh turret armed with the ancient 1918 British 4.5-inch howitzer to produce the BT-42 assault gun. It is thought only 18 vehicles had been produced during the WWII conflict.
